Touchdown in Perth

Precision planning paid off today as the StepUp Ambassadors arrived smoothly in Perth for CONASTA64 . Despite many of us rising before sunrise to make our flights, everyone was in good spirits, even when the MAXI taxi man announced he could either fit six ladies or six suitcases. As we were scientifically debating the pros and cons of each, thankfully a MEGA taxi pulled up and resolved our indecision.

With an afternoon to fill, we glanced at the grey sky and optimistically headed off to Kings Park, one of the world’s largest and most beautiful inner city parks. Kings Park is home to the spectacular Western Australian Botanic Garden, which displays over 3,000 species of the State’s unique flora.

The Whispering Wall provided the perfect place to exchange a few science jokes. The curved walls are at the entrance to the War Memorial Precinct in the Court of Contemplation. One sits at one end of the seat incorporated in the walls and quiet comments (or scintillating science jokes) that are made close to the walls are audible to a person sitting at the other end.

It was great to be active outside after a long flight. The temperature was also mild so there was no need for my ugg boots yet, but some amongst us wished we included an umbrella in those big suitcases.
